Let's dance

Coming down through the greenery, with the palace on our left and the rolling fields stretching off and down to the sea on our right, we whistled and talked. In the main our conversation chewed on ancient runes and traditions of the tribe. It felt tribal. When we sheltered from the rain in a lovely copse of birch and heather, it felt wonderfully tribal.

Our purpose was to eat, to hunt food and bring it back to our families. We enjoyed the company, we enjoyed the safety in numbers. We talked about how each one of us missed the old ways, although we never knew them. We wondered together at the fragility of our new existence. Nothing appeared to add up, nothing made sense.

We lived a soft life for a while, with candles in the evening, early nights and early mornings. We lived simply, with no shoes or socks. We make rice cakes and we learned to sing again. Ah, the songs! One of us remembered a time at the river, when the Old Lady was still with us. She used to sing such beautiful songs, all the children would stop their games and listen then, feeling true happiness just for a fleeting moment, like the shadow of a bird pass over them. It was sickening, and false. The grey stones of the river back collapsed in on themselves and took the Old Lady to the very bottom of the Black Pool. With a desperate wail she was taken from our lives and her song had never been sung since.

Now we sang it, this evening as we came through the greenery. What curse lies on this song, for as we plied the second verse a wind came up and smashed us against the old wall of the palace, crushing our bones so we have not been able to move, and can but lie here until we're dead? What curse have you harnessed to this melody? It really is a tragedy.

The lives of the dogs and the city kids is like fish, free but in danger of the nets. Who knows what'll happen next. Flats are nice moments to visit, not for living in the whole life long. We've got to get out of here.

You know the old man in the velvet library, the one in the worn out lonely castle? You know the castle in the desert, near the gnarly tree? Yeah? Well, swap that old man for an old woman and let's see what she comes up with. I think there may be a bit more chat but lets wait and see. I'd love it if there was, I'm kind of lonely now that I realise I'll never see the others again, and am really not sure if I'll ever see anyone again. They all got through and left me behind man! With the shoddy castle and the desert for friends. Why d'you think they did it, eh?

Smoothly now we're landin', like doves or something let's take off again and hit the moon with a lump of charcoal, lets take a picture of that still new view and kill it with an imposed magic. Let's just do something a bit more interesting shall we? Let's dance.
